Culinary tourism has been on the rise in recent years as travelers have become more educated about and interested in the food of different countries, often choosing their destinations based on the foods they’ll find there. Various tour companies offer gastronomic itineraries to meet that demand but the best way to do it is to travel with a chef.
Enter Culinary Passport, a travel company based on food-based itineraries started by chef Erik Blauberg a few years ago after leaving his post as executive chef of New York’s famed “21.” “I had done a lot of culinary travel as a chef and had made a lot of friends among farmers and winemakers and food artisans,” he says. “I’d had a lot of great experiences so I thought “let me put together programs in the richest regions of the world so I can share these with other people.”
